    BMW Lightweight Chrome-Molly Flywheel

    Made as direct fitment to m60 V8 engines (possibly v12 also)

    Made from High tensile Chrome-molly steel these flywheels are both light and very strong.

    Weighing only about 5Kg (11Lb) these will greatly increase the response and acceleration of any vehicle. Clutch weight is still a significant addition so there is no possibility of being "too light"

    NOTE:
    This is a Hybrid product, Clutch fitment is standard 240mm from BMW M30/M88/S38 Engines  These clutches are very strong with fully sprung centers. They are ideal for use with single mass FW giving a really nice smooth OEM feel while still being capable of transmitting an extremely large torque capacity

    NOTE:
    For use with the big 6sp V8 transmission you will need to purchase a large spline 240mm clutch plate, these are available from the clutch for an e46 m3 (S54) or e39 M5 (S60) Either of these discs will work well with the pressure plates listed above.

     

    There are a few different grades of OEM clutch kits commonly available for this Flywheel. here are just 2 examples. Note that clutches for m30 Duel Mass FW are NOT compatible

    p/n  21219069010   This is the early model M30 clutch from e28/e24 etc usually the most common and lowest cost, great for everyday use, still incredibly strong and reliable.

    p/n  21212226428   This is the big S38 M5 clutch with huge torque capacity and indestructible construction, ideal for extreme turbo and race applications 600Hp+

     

     

    Myth Buster!!........

    It is a common perception that a large flywheel is used to increase the torque of and engine and with a light flywheel an engine will have less torque but this is NOT the case! Heavy flywheels are used only to ease the smooth engagement of the clutch so Grandma can take off without stalling the engine and thats it! maybe improve idle quality a little also. Once the car is rolling and the clutch is fully engaged the flywheel becomes completely unnecessary because the entire vehicle and its driveline becomes the flywheel storing huge amounts of momentum. Any additional weight particularly on the crank shaft because this spins at higher speeds only reduces the vehicles capability to accelerate briskly. So if Grandma isnt going to drive your car and you don't mind having to use a little more finesse with the clutch pedal to take off from the lights then you will enjoy all the benefits of having a snappy responsive engine with much improved acceleration that comes with installing a light flywheel, even if its only a daily driven road car! We have many happy customers driving around on these flywheels every day just find and ask someone and they will be happy to report that drivability is not compromised at all, but the improved response and acceleration is very pronounced!
